As July 4 approaches, America is preparing to celebrate a remarkable milestone: the nation's 250th birthday. It's a chance to gather with family and friends, enjoy some summer traditions, and reflect on a quarter millennium of history.
Speaking of history, our resident American history enthusiast James is quick to point out that independence was actually voted on July 2, 1776. Future president John Adams was so convinced July 2 would become the nation's great annual celebration that he predicted Americans would mark the occasion with parades, games, bells, bonfires, and illuminations. Two hundred and fifty years later, Adams was almost perfectly right. He just missed the date!
